Team Coordinator

My name is Tyra Hicks, and I began my journey in childcare shortly after COVID. Since then, I have developed a true passion for working with children of all age groups and being a positive influence during such an important stage of their development. I enjoy creating meaningful connections with children, helping them learn, grow, and feel supported every day. I am excited to continue expanding my career in early childhood education and look forward to starting my journey at GCDC.

I was born in Washington, DC, and spent part of my early childhood in New Jersey before moving back to Maryland at the age of four. I grew up mainly in Prince George’s County and later moved to Anne Arundel County after middle school. I graduated from Meade Senior High School in 2017 and later moved to Bryans Road, Maryland.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted a career working with children, whether it was becoming a pediatrician, NICU nurse, or teacher. In many ways, teaching found me, and I quickly realized it was where I was meant to be. My dream is to one day own my own childcare center and continue making a difference in the lives of children and families. I also hope to become a mentor for young girls, as I truly enjoy supporting and encouraging the youth. I’m grateful this passion found me because I genuinely love what I do and look forward to seeing how far this journey takes me.

Outside of my career, I enjoy traveling with friends and family and have recently discovered a love for cruises. I also enjoy fun adventures such as visiting museums, attending concerts, and attending shows. My favorite colors are pink, gold, and green, and I love learning about new topics and experiences whenever I can.
