My name is Mital Gajjar, and I belong to the first generation in the US within my family. I am a passionate educator with a diverse background, including 15 years in education, where I believe education is a powerful tool to have for a lifetime. I also tutor young children and mentor students from elementary school to college. I have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies with minors in Biological Sciences and South Asian Studies from Rutgers University. I also have completed two years of master’s in occupational therapy from Springfield College. While I was in the master’s program, I discovered the joy of working with young children, so I went ahead and earned my CDA in infants and toddlers during the COVID pandemic. Since then, I have been working in early childhood education for 5 years now across all ages. In addition, I have worked with school-aged children in after school settings since my first job in high school. I have been earning my MSDE certifications through my participation in the State’s Childcare Apprenticeship Program. Overall, I enjoy working with children with diverse needs and backgrounds.
On the side, I am also a Commissioner for the Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) in Maryland where I advocate for women’s rights. I have also been actively involved in advocacy work, particularly focusing on disability awareness, DEI initiatives, and social justice. In my free time I enjoy engaging in community activities, such as promoting health and wellness, reading, and catching up on scholarly trends in ECE, trying out new recipes, drawing and painting, and traveling.
I am a native of New Jersey before moving to Maryland.
