Curriculum & Assessment
GCDC’s approach to teaching is grounded in the theories of constructivism. This method of education means that our Teachers use child-centered practices. GCDC teachers are trained to observe and facilitate learning by providing appropriate instruction and scaffolding to further each child’s knowledge. Because of this, learning through play is at the core of our philosophy and teaching practices. We believe that young children learn best when they can interact with materials to construct their learning. Here, learning involves sensory activities, real experiences, concrete materials, social interaction and both spontaneous and facilitated discovery.
Through the use of twelve interest areas or centers, teachers carefully plan learning experiences for children that extend concepts in ways that our Teachers cannot meaningfully accomplish through didactic instruction.
